DALLAS (April 8, 2021) – Math, music and now: gaming. The Envy Foundation, a 501(c)(3) created by leading Texas-based esports and entertainment company Envy Gaming, is launching to bring people together through initiatives and programming that leverage the universal culture of gaming.
Initially, the Envy Foundation will focus efforts in four areas:
- Development of STEAM initiatives at the middle school and high school level.
- Bettering gamer health – cognitive, mental and physical.
- Delivering joy to children receiving medical care.
- And improving lives of those that share in North Texas as a hometown.
An annual grant program administered by the Envy Foundation will give North Texas middle schools and high schools the opportunity to apply for funding, gaming hardware, and ongoing education curricula needed to start or grow an extracurricular esports program. Grant applications and more details will be available later this spring at envyfoundation.org.
Interest in gaming and esports has accelerated in recent years, particularly at the youth level. High School Esports League currently has more than 3,100 schools participating in gaming and esports programs that feature STEAM accreditation and integrated curriculum. At the same time, access to gaming at the scholastic or individual level often requires expensive hardware like gaming computers or consoles, and high-powered internet.
Envy plans to engage partners – including Acer and Predator Gaming, among others – as well as the support of the online gaming community in initiatives throughout the year that raise additional funds to support foundation grants and programming.
Envy has been a longstanding supporter of Gamers Outreach, which helps bring video games and play to hospitalized children. And in recent weeks, after the Texas winter storms left millions without power or water, Envy organized a charity stream (“UNITED FOR TEXAS”) that brought together personalities from esports, gaming, anime, cosplay, comedy, music and entertainment to raise more than $50,000 in 72 hours to benefit relief efforts.
Founded in 2007, Envy includes a growing network of content creators, competitive gamers, and esports teams with global reach. The Envy Foundation will work with Varsity Esports Foundation on administration and execution of its grant programs. For more information, visit envyfoundation.org.
